WHAT IS AN UMBRELLA AWARD?
THE UMBRELA AWARD SHOW IS A CHANCE FOR US TO
HONOR THOSE SPECIAL PEOPLE WHO ARE ALWAYS DOING SOMETHING NICE FOR
YOURSELF OR OTHERS SOMEONE WHO GOES OUT OF THEIR WAY TO
HELP A STRANGER, GIVES THE SHIRT OFF OF THEIR BACK, LENDS A HAND AND
DOES WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO HELP MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.
Our 1st Annual Umbrella Awards was a huge success. Nearly 120 people filled the Calimesa Country
Club to support the Umbrella Award Nominees. Mind blowing magic was performed by Magicians to the Stars Brian Gillis and Sisuepahn.
Brian Gillis stole the watch right off of Good Samaritan nominee Officer Ron Dortch’s wrist and nobody even noticed
until it was held above his head. Mind reader Sisuepahn guessed random words chosen by members of the audience and her incredible
mind over matter skills made it impossible for 2 grown men to lift the 115lb beauty. We had a great D.J. Foul Owl Productions
who played just the right upbeat and happy songs for our event. But
why call it the Umbrella Award? To Smiles for Seniors Foundation the Umbrella represents shelter from the storm
and we often use the word Umbrella to describe a kind deed. Our nominees know how important is to extend an umbrella to those
in need and that why they were honored this past April 24th. Throughout the year these folks go about their
lives as ordinary people, but these are not ordinary people. They are extra ordinary. They have something in their hearts that pushes
them to go the extra mile to help others. They see the world through the eyes of God, and they have apathy for those who are
in need. I am reminded of a saying (In this world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be
the world.) The difference between
the Umbrella Award Nominees and ordinary people is that they often can sense the slightest human suffering, and feel a tug
in their hearts to take action to do something about it. They stand up for what they believe in, they stand up for what’s
right, give a voice to those who cannot or are not able speak for themselves; they are brave in the face of adversity, and
they know that true charity begins when you leave you comfort zone. Nominees are listed below BUSINESS: Visiting Angels PUBLIC SERVICE: Arrowhead
